Planning Permission Received For Kanturk Community Astro Turf Pitch

The Kanturk Astro Turf Committee recently received the great news that they had obtained

planning permission approval from an Bord Pleanala for a community Astro Turf  Pitch.

The whole process has nearly taken 2 years so far but the officers and committee of the

project are absolutely delighted with the decision which will benefit the local community.

The committee is made up of representatives and stakeholders from Kanturk GAA, Kanturk

AFC, Kanturk Rugby, Colaiste Treasa, Scoil Mhuire, Colmans BNS, Kanturk Girls NS, Infinity

English College, Kanturk Community Council and Kanturk Chamber Of Commerce. Each

stakeholder made financial contributions to achieve this dream.

The Committee would like to thank Michael Moynihan TD and Cork County Councillor John

Paul O’Shea for their support in the arduous process of getting the project to this point.

The committee would also like to thank Engineer Tim & Michael Lenihan of TG Lenihan &

Co. Engineering Consultants for their diligent work in preparing & submitting the plans for

approval. It has not been easy, with many hours of deliberations taking place with

committee Officers Thomas Horgan, Chairman; Secretary Padraig Breen; Treasurer Pat Joe

Cremin and Project Manager Tom O’Callaghan. The whole committee is committed to the

goal of developing a brilliant asset for the community.

A few sites were considered but the site in Grenane was considered the most suitable and viable for the whole community in that all the sports clubs are in close proximity.

The plan for the Astro Turf pitch is to have a fantastic facility available for Kanturk Sports

Clubs and Kanturk Schools as well as all of the local community in neighbouring areas.

Receiving planning approval is only a first step along a hard route but the committee are

confident of a positive outcome. They acknowledge that they will need the full support of

the local community to raise finance in these difficult times. Local contributions will be

supported by grants available from relevant Government Agencies & Local Government

Authorities.

Financial contributions from the public are welcome to be made to the Kanturk Astroturf

Community Company at this early stage
